About us

Camerata Ardesko was formed in the Netherlands in late 2006 by a group of international conservatorium graduates/friends who were keen to establish a vibrant chamber orchestra consisting of members for whom music is not just a job but a way of life. It consists of a core group of string players, expanded by wind players when needed. Camerata Ardesko is a truly international orchestra with its members comimg from

many nations including; Australia, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Romania and  the Netherlands.

Both parts of the orchestra’s name link to the general philosophy of the ensemble. The Florentine Camerata were a group of 16th century artists who came together to share their ideas about the arts. The word ‘Ardesko’ was taken from the latin word ardesco, meaning ‘to set fire to’, ‘to excite’. In Camerata Ardesko every member has the opportunity to voice their opinion and the orchestra as a whole strives to excite and stimulate the audience by sharing the energy and passion every single player has for music.

Inspired by groups such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Ardesko is in the process of establishing itself as a privately funded, self-run professional chamber orchestra.

Depending on repertoire demands and the size of the orchestra, Camerata Ardesko plays as much as possible without conductor, believing that every single member of the orchestra becomes actively involved in the process of making music and a greater intimacy and tightness of ensemble is created.

The repertoire of Camerata Ardesko covers all periods from baroque to contemporary, and the orchestra aims to make clear distinctions in style between the periods. The orchestra plans to be involved in multi-disciplinary arts projects and projects which blur style boundaries. In keeping with this philosophy, Camerata Ardesko will support singer Alessandro Safina on his Dutch tour.
